While luxury and driving enjoyment are hallmarks of the Genesis experience, safety has always been the automaker's number-one priority—and it has the awards to prove it. For the fourth year in a row, every eligible tested model on the Genesis roster has earned Top Safety Pick+ recognition, the highest possible rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Genesis Electrified G80--the battery-powered variant of the superb G80 luxury sedan—is the latest model to earn the institute's highest safety honors, joining the ranks with the GV60, GV70, GV80, G70, G80, and G90.
"Genesis continues to prioritize safety at the forefront of everything we do," remarked Claudia Marquez, chief operating officer of Genesis Motor North America. "We are pleased with this recognition from IIHS, further highlighting the importance we put on keeping our customers safe."
Earning Top Safety Pick recognition is no easy feat. It requires the highest possible score of "Good" for all six crashworthiness assessments, a frontal collision mitigation system rated "Advanced" or "Superior," and available headlights rated "Good" or "Acceptable." The additional "plus" (+) suffix is reserved for TSP-rated vehicles with "Good"-scoring headlights as standard equipment.
The Electrified G80's Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, received "Superior" marks, while the standard LED projector-style headlights with automatic high beams were rated "Good."
Under the floorboards, the Electrified G80 finds motivation in a pair of electric motors producing 365 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. An 87.2-kWh battery pack enables an EPA-estimated 282 miles and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in under 22 minutes at a compatible DC fast-charging station.
